Kosta Boda and Ann Wolff Launch the International Snowball Award in
Partnership with the Ann Wolff Foundation Gotland.
Kosta Boda, in collaboration with internationally acclaimed artist and sculptor Ann Wolff and the Ann Wolff Foundation Gotland (AWFG), today announces a significant new chapter in their longstanding relationship with the establishment of the international Snowball Award. This initiative underscores a renewed commitment to collaboration and the development of artistic excellence.
The collaboration between Kosta Boda and Ann Wolff spans several decades and
represents a defining contribution to the evolution of Swedish design and contemporary
glass art. Wolff designed the now iconic Snowball votive for Kosta Boda in 1973, a design
classic that has since become a landmark in Scandinavian glassmaking. This shared legacy forms the foundation for a new phase of joint initiatives that bridge tradition and innovation.
As part of this initiative, a recurring international award for artistic excellence, the Snowball Award, will be established with its first edition in 2027. The award will be produced by Kosta Boda and administered and conferred by the Ann Wolff Foundation Gotland, with the objective of providing visibility, recognition, and sustained artistic exploration on a global scale, primarily dedicated to supporting female Nordic and international artists. Further details regarding the award criteria, format, and jury will be announced by the AWFG foundation during autumn 2026.
In parallel with the launch of the award, Kosta Boda will introduce the Snowball votive in
carefully selected colours, with a release scheduled for 2027. This edition pays tribute to the enduring relevance of Wolff’s design while recontextualizing it for contemporary audiences.
